Results of ReWAdd presented at the 46th GERSEQ meeting of the Specialized Group on Electrochemistry of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry held in Barcelona
Results of ReWAdd related to WP1: Nutrient extraction and concentration were presented at the XLVI Reunión de Electroquímica de la RSEQ (46 GE-RSEQ) held at University of Barcelona on 7-10 July 2026.
Dr. Kayo Santana-Barros, Postdoctoral researcher of the UPV team, presented the poster entitled “Concentration of nutrients present in urban wastewater by means of electrodialysis: membrane characterization and transport rates”. In the study, the electrochemical response of various ion-exchange membranes was investigated using real effluent of the WWTP El Saler (València), and subsequently, electrodialysis experiments for the recovery of nutrients were conducted. These results include the calculation of transport rates through the membranes of nutrients of interest, such as ammonia and phosphate ions, and their relative permselectivity with regard to the main competing ions present in the real wastewaters: sodium and chloride ions. The results are part of the activities conducted under the participation of the UPV team in the València Urban Sandbox that will lead to the nutrient recovery tests in a real environment.
The conference was organized by the Specialized Group on Electrochemistry (GEE) of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry and gathered international experts in the field of fundamental and applied electrochemistry. This was a great venue to showcase the results of ReWAdd.
